Diving
The Red
Sea Diving Safari team have continually extended south and now operates
from its three bases at:
Ecolodge Shagra Village
Ecolodge Nakari Village
Ecolodge Wadi Lahami Village
From here they cover approximately 142 kilometres of coastal fringe reef sites.
Red Sea Diving Safari offers you a daily dive package of unlimited diving at our fabulous house reefs plus two guided dives a day by truck (Ecolodges Shagra village and Nakari village) or RIB to the unexplored reefs of Fury Shoal reef chain (Ecolodge Wadi Lahami village). Optional at the Ecolodges Shagra village and Nakari village guided dives by SeaOx Speedboat or Motor Yacht.
The diving from here is exceptional and includes some of
the most dramatic
hard coral formations in the Egyptian Red Sea. You
have access to 150km of coral fringe reef, which reaches a maximum depth
of 55m and is pitted with caves, elaborate tunnel systems and many swim-throughs.
As well as diving the house reefs off Shagra and Nakari,
you can travel daily by open flatbed lorries to explore the sharms, marsas
and reef walls along the coral coast. The house reefs are sheltered and
offer shallow diving and sand patches which are excellent for dive training.
Night diving here is probably the best you will find in the Red Sea.
The only offshore
reefs found in 185km of coastline from south Safaga to Marsa Alam can very
easily be accessed from our Villages. These include Elphinstone, Abu Dabbab,
Nakari, Shaab Samadi and Shaab el
Gadeer.
Elphinstone is directly opposite Shagra and is one of the jewels of the south, with walls covered in soft coral plunging down into very deep water. Here the strong currents and multitudes of fish attract up to seven species of shark. Dolphin House Reef, located off Nakari Village, is another gem, with beautiful corals and a resident school of dolphins.
“Having the freedom to choose when and where
you dive is liberating.”
Development
has started along this coastline and the Dive Villages are no longer as
isolated as they once were. However, the atmosphere at Shagra and Nakari
is still one of adventure. The buildings within the Villages are ideal
for the desert location and are being used as a positive example by environmentalists.
Although there is now more comfort available to our guests, fortunately
the pioneering spirit has remained.
Full dive equipment can be hired on site and is included for the participants on one of the diving courses. Guests with their own equipment should bring thick soled booties, essential for shore based diving.
